Transformers Masterpiece Thundercracker Exclusive

  • This highly articulated and posable DECEPTICON figure stands tall on his display stand, his weapons at the ready.
  • His canopy opens and his nose-cone swings open when you convert him to fighter jet mode, and his hidden missile pods give him fighter power AND firepower!
  • He comes with 2 different heads so you can change his look depending on what kind of trouble he’s about to cause for the AUTOBOTS.

THUNDERCRACKER looks down on those who cannot fly with sneering disdain, often going out of his way to attack creatures that cannot fly, just to prove his superiority. It was this attitude that led to him being recruited into the original Seekers squadron alongside STARSCREAM® and SKYWARP®. Though his loyalty to the DECEPTICON cause is less than total, the fact that he is allowed to indulge his impulse to assault those he considers inferior keeps him flying for MEGATRON®.The power of this unbelievable Masterpiece THUNDERCRACKER figure cannot be denied! Take your TRANSFORMERS adventures to the next level with this incredible Masterpiece THUNDERCRACKER figure!

Hasbro just released a masterpiece version of the Transformers Thundercracker stateside. I just picked up mine from a Toys “R” Us in Council Bluffs, IA, last week for $69.99. This is a must-have figure for the serious, adult collector, especially those with a fondness of the ’80s Transformers cartoon and those who needed to complete their 3 Seekers figures and who didn’t want to pay a high price to do it.

I say “serious” and “adult collector” because this figure is relatively expensive compared to children’s toys but it is also fragile. An adult will enjoy the figure immensely because it is extremely poseable and has many points of articulation: the head swivels and goes up and down, the index fingers are completely jointed, it has opposable thumbs, and the wrists, legs and arms have plenty of bending points. This version even comes with a stand to maximize poseability. Careful adults will not break this but an eager child surely will. They only 2 disappointments in its articulation is the lack of any waist rotation and, despite the fact that the actual box and instructions within advertise the possibility of two, alternate faces, this new Seekers’ design only has one face. The instructions contain images of the smaller heads from previous Hasbro releases Starscream and Skywarp that could change expressions; this one definitely can’t. Thanks for your diligent proofreading and truth in advertising, Hasbro!

Anyway, I mention that this is a new Seekers design. The plane Decepticons and original lieutenants to Megatron in the original ’80s Transformers toy line and cartoon consisted of Starscream, Skywarp and Thundercracker. All three together are often called the Seekers. Takara, Hasbro’s sister business in Asia, began the Masterpiece line of high end, ultra poseable Transformers figures that truly look like their cartoon and comic counterparts about 10 years ago. The original ’80s Transformers toys often looked very little like their characters on TV, so the Masterpiece line is an incredible gift for true Transformers’ lovers. It actually heals, yes, heals the souls of adult boys who could never understand the discontinuity in size, look and articulation between the adventurous characters on TV and the hunks of immovable plastic in their hands. These Masterpiece figures close that gap, but I digress… Hasbro then took the same Takara figures, in particular Starscream and Skywarp, repainted them a bit and released them stateside through Walmart for a fraction of the cost of their Takara counterparts.

Now a year ago Takara redesigned their Seekers mold altogether and released a new Starscream. Hasbro then took that new Seekers design and repainted it, creating this Thundercracker, a Masterpiece figure never released stateside until now. For the most part this Thundercracker fits right in with the previously released Starscream and Skywarp: they’re the same size and even fit on the same stands. There are differences, though, and some definite improvements in this new design: it no longer has the tail fins awkwardly sticking out behind the figure, the arm turrets have more poseability, the head is larger, the wings and head are more poseable, and the figure can actually stand on its own because it has heels! Finally.

Takara actually did make a Thundercracker back in the day from the old design, but it now easily sells online for $250 and that’s before shipping! This Hasbro version at Toys “R” Us only cost $70 and finally allows the collector who has Starscream and Skywarp to complete his collection.

Now, many will argue that the Takara versions are superior: better paint job, better plastic, etc., but for me there’s an extreme price difference. Even last year’s Starscream release cost around $180 for those who ordered it as an import and that’s before the cost of shipping or price gouging on internet auction sites. Granted it came with an awesome cape and crown, but it also lacked a stand. $180 plus international shipping versus $70 and state sales tax here: for me it’s a no brainer.

The only critique I have for this particular figure – in addition to the lack of an alternative face – is that at least mine doesn’t “lock” into place well; when you try to pose him his upper torso keeps coming undone. It’s annoying but not the end of the world.

Otherwise, in order to complete the Seekers collection, for the price ($70), and for hours of fun posing him, this is a great product and comes highly recommended.

This is a retooled mold from the masterpiece starscream from years ago.

    THE GOOD:
They change many little things that make the robot mode much more G1 looking and a lot more stable for posing.

    THE BAD:
The changes in the robot affect the sleek look that I liked in the plane mode from the older version.

Any way, a great bot for adult collectors.

Thundercracker is back G1 Style! The seekers consisting of Starscream,Skywarp, and Thundercracker were three of the most badass decepticons in the G1 series.I do own the Skywarp masterpiece and this Thundercracker version is just as great and amazing all around. For any transformer fan from the G1 days this is a chance to get the coolest, best quality, and biggest Thundercracker ever done.Thundercracker stands as tall as a leader class transformer with all the excellent detail and articulation in both modes that will take you back in time to remind you why you loved transformers as a kid.Thundercracker has the vintage classic head piece along with his trusted null ray cannons on each arm.The seeker also has moveable and poseable fingers for a cool realistic touch. The twin missile attachments under the wings can be stored securely on the display stand when in fighter jet mode so the null ray cannons can attach underneath for the perfect G1 style seeker look while in fighter jet mode. The wings also adorn the classic decepticon symbols in perfect detail. The masterpiece exclusive’s are made in the molds of how the characters were in the original series.Thundercracker masterpiece is meant for serious collectors and fans due to having to be handled with extreme care and patience. This bad boy isn’t meant for kids or the younger ages due to the fact they would probably easily break parts and pieces of the transformer.Thundercracker has a advanced transformation which means if you have plenty of experience with transformers there is still challenging difficulty.Thundercracker does have some sweet features like hidden missile pods, opening canopy, adjustable thrust vector,swing-open nose cone, and a display stand which can be used for robot or fighter jet mode. The display stand is highly detailed with Thundercracker’s name and a cool decpticon symbol for an ultimate display look. The poseability is outstanding with improved stability for creating cool battle scenes or displaying this gem where you please. The durability is excellent as well with secure joints and a solid build in either mode. This is one top of the line, well constructed transformer that will leave all long time transformer fans in state of ultimate satisfaction.Bottom line Transformer Masterpiece Thundercracker is a well-made,high quality,10 out of 10 transformer that all serious fans and collectors will treasure.I highly recommend Transformer Materpiece Thundercracker to all serious transformer fans and collectors out there.Thundercracker Rocks and Transformers Rule!!!
