This is going to be a little tough to review because well, Ratbat and Frenzy aren’t your average Transformers. Ratbat and Frenzy transform into Data Discs which are designed to auto transform when ejected from Soundwave. While that feature is cool and you basically do nothing to transform them, it really hurts poseability big time. There is some poseability with Frenzy ,you can move his arms up and down and toes in and out but that’s it. Ratbat no poseability at all. He just flops back to beast mode. Frenzy does looks pretty cool the sculpt is very nice. I’m super suprised Hasbro even put a decepticon logo on his robot mode. There is nothing different about Frenzy’s overall look. No retools or nothing. He and Rumble share the exact same mold. Ratbat even though he is the same basic mold as Lazerbeak, there are a couple things that are different. His head has been nicely retooled to what we all are used to,and his tail is different. His wings are slightly different but not much. I do miss the poseability of the G1 Cassettes but I can’t argue when these new Data Discs automatically transform in midair after being ejected.

Transformation to Data Disc mode is super simple. My three year old has no problem with them at all. They do have a tendency to pop open when you don’t want them too but most often it’s user error. With a push of the button on the bottom of the disc boom they transform.

The set does come with cases to store the Discs in much like the original G1 Cassettes. The case is translucent purple and sports silver decepticon logo. Really cool.

Overall I’m very happy with the new “cassettes” It brings back welcome memories of the G1 Soundwave and his minions. If you have FOC Soundwave…you must have these guys!

The packaging was defective. The cardboard was not even attached to the plastic shell, they were just thrown in a box together.

Kid loves the toy though, easy to transform and work with Soundwave, Soundblaster, and Autobot Blaster

I purchased all the Communication bots (FOC Soundwave, Soundblaster, and Blaster) so of course I needed to collect all there minions as well. Ratbat and Frenzy look are classic characters that were tapes for Soundwave back in the day. These little guys are nice additions to the collection. Frenzy is a repaint of the other robots in the series (Rewind, Rumble, and Eject). Ratbat appears as a retool of the bird data disks (Laserbeak, Buzzsaw, and Sunder). Transformation to data disk is relatively simply, but because of the spring loaded action of the figures, it can sometimes be tricky to get everything to catch. Transformation back into robot mode is as simple as a push of a button and everything snaps into place(small little items may need to be moved to finish transformation though). Cases to keep these guys in are included which is nice as it helps protect them in disk mode if you are not placing them into Blaster’s chest. My only real complaint is that they are a tight fit getting them into Soundwave’s chest. Overall I am really happy with these items though.
