Ratchet is awesome as ever!Specialist Ratchet has the same mold as the original Dark of the Moon version with a classic G1 influence in appearence. The mostly red with the stripe being white is reversed compared to the G1 decor, but is very cool looking on Ratchet. The autobot symbol shows up very clear on the silver for a realistic touch. The Hummer H2 mode is very solid with all parts fitting securely together. In robot mode Ratchet has great articulation in the legs, arms, body, and head piece.Ratchet also has a new Mech Tech weapon. The autobot hero comes with a hand blaster that converts to a double-barreled cannon. The silver part with the autobot symbol looks really cool on the arm like extra battle armor decor. The poseability is outstanding with great stability for creating cool battle scenes and for displaying where you please. The durability is excellent as well with secure joints and a solid build for taking on any decepticon threat. The transformation level is intermediate meaning if you have plenty of experience with transformers there is a mid-level difficulty. If you are a parent buying for a child of 5-6 or younger you might have to help some in the process.Honestly Ratchet has a very versatile transformation that most ages can learn with practice. To start out the panels behind the autobot symbol rotate out as the front wheels and side panels do the same. The entire piece then rotates completely around so the head piece is between the front windshield and grill. The arms then rotate down as the roof rack folds up into a v-shape.The front wheels rotate out then fold inwards as the arms rotate forward. The legs then rotate out from the rear section as the feet then rotate completely around. The very bottom piece attached to the roof rack folds in followed by the rest of the roof rack doing the same. The upper torso swings down to connect with the lower torso as the front bumper rotates down.Ratchet is now ready for action! This version is just as good as the original with sweet detail all around.Bottom line Specialist Ratchet is a well-made,high quality,10 out of 10 transformer that all fans will enjoy.I highly recommend Ratchet to all transformer fans and collectors out there.Specialist Ratchet Rocks and Transformers Rule!!!

This ratchet is the one my son loves. He is three and had one that would break all the time. This classic red and white looks more like the cartoon version that he loves.
It is also pretty easy to transform.

First, Ratchet is an excellent toy. I do like his color scheme, and I do like most of his goings-on. However. His gun is not the greatest. First, I don’t like the Mechtech weapons. Second, he has to hold it in his hand. He has seven MechTech ports all over his body, all seven available in robot mode. One on each leg, one on each shoulder, one in each hand, and one on his back. Although the shoulder gun would be the coolest, and the most practical, it can’t be done. The wheels on his shoulders get in the way. The gun is too heavy to go on his leg, and it can’t shoot while on his back. Also, it is way to heavy for him to hold it without pointing it ant the floor.

Another issue is with his design. He has a large piece of back kibble that really stinks. On some, like Optimus Prime, the kibble folds up nicely into a backpack-ish piece. Not so with Ratchet. It sticks out like an awfully swollen thumb. Ugh. Not to mention the fact that it falls off every time you move him. Also, his shoulders are difficult to understand to transform. Along those lines; in the instructions, it shows just Ratchet’s head-and-shoulders part to rotate while leaving the grille in place. This is possible, but hard to understand. It is much easier to flip both pieces and rotate the grille after.

Despite these issues, I really love this guy. He may be smaller than his other toys, but he is a lot more articulate and harder to break. He also has a more G1-y color, making him so much cooler. His AA guns that the Mechtech weapon turns into looks epic on his vehicle. He is one of the only guys who I like the Mechtech weapon on. Also, he has four C-Clip sections, one on each forearm and two right above his windshield. For those who don’t know, C-Clips are clips that LEGO men or weapons from Generations Wheeljack or Kup could attach on to. So, despite his problems, he is really, really cool. Maybe it’s just sentimentality, but this one is better than the green one.
