    Construct-Bots a hit!, September 16, 2013
Lisa oliveira (BROKEN ARROW, OK, US) –

We received this toy as part of a BzzCampaign from BzzAgent (which basically means we got it for free in exchange for giving our honest, thorough review on the product). When we were selected for this BzzCampaign, I was a little hesitant at first…I mean, come on…a transformers toy that would actually transform into from a bot to a vehicle and back again without having to remove or disassemble anything? I’m glad that I was wrong. This toy arrived yesterday and my 6 year old son has been playing with it non stop.
    * Instructions to build each figure are very well illustrated. My child was able to lay his pieces out in the correct configuration and assemble each bot pretty much on his own from the beginning.
    * Pieces snapped together easily and stayed together until you truly wanted to disassemble the piece. And then, pieces snapped off easily without fear of breaking or bending something.
    * Imagination is a huge piece of the puzzle here. Once the skeleton is put together, the possibilities really are endless with how you can assemble the bots.
    * Fine motor skills play into this toy in a big way. The pieces need to be put on in the correct way and some of the ball/socket pieces need a little “oomph” behind them to get them in properly. If you have a child (like I do) that lacks a little in the fine motor skill area, this is a great activity to help them with that.

    * Transformation – the instructions in the booklet that came with the toy are a little unclear when trying to follow the steps to transform the Bot into a vehicle. However – after figuring it out and doing it a couple of times, it becomes much easier to do.
    * App – the app for iphone is a little confusing. You have to “purchase” the pieces you need to build your bot with points. When you download the app you automatically receive an allotment of points and it looks like with each toy you purchase, you receive a voucher for more. This was a little hard for me (and my son) to grasp. You build this bot on the app but may or may not be able to build it with your pieces (in real life) because you may not have every single piece that is a choice in the app. I feel like the app has a lot of possibility, but it’s not quite the best part about these toys.

Overall – a great toy that will provide many hours of fun and creativity.

First off, we got this set for free through BzzAgent to review. My opinions are my own. My husband put this together the night before we gave it to my son (6). His reaction and my son’s reaction were vastly different! My husband was frustrated and disappointed, my son was a big fan. Here are the reactions in a nut shell:

Transformers!! My son just loves them and anything related to them
The ability to transform without having to take the whole thing apart
The fact that you can make your own Bot
    Loads of weapons. Weapons galore!
Optimus Prime vs Megatron! Epic battles! Flames! Explosions!
Storage case. Need I say more?

    Cheap plastic feels flimsy
Building is hard – the pieces require some strength to snap together
The parts that NEED to come apart are hard to take apart, even for my husband
The parts that DON’T need to come apart have a tendency to fall off during transformation
The vehicle form doesn’t look much like they do in the show. It’s a vague representation of a semi truck
(to be fair, my husband was the one who thought the semi truck version of Optimus looked weird. My son did not care)

So to sum up, this is a toy that will frustrate your child if he (or she) does not have an adult available to help with the building part. They might be fine after that, with only a little help here and there. And over time, the pieces might loosen up and move better and kiddo might learn to be careful with the ones that fall off when he tries to rotate them. They are not as high quality as Legos, but even those require help now and then. If your child likes Transformers and building things, he (or she) will probably like this set. Just be prepared to help.

Disappointing new Style, September 19, 2013

I have such positive memories of Transformers from my childhood. there was a sense of achievement to being able to quickly transform your toy from one shape to another. Bonus points if you could fully transform it without looking. I was so excited to hear about a line of customizable transformers and had really high hopes. Sadly, I’ve been very disappointed.

My six year old son, lover of all thinks building and battling, dove right into this kit. The directions were clear enough but he had to ask for help multiple times because the pieces were too hard to snap together. Once the bots were put together, they were extremely challenging to transform. Since they don’t click into the final position, everything always looks a little skewed and unfinished.

The hard to snap pieces have also meant that it’s a challenge to customize the bots, the main selling point of this toy.

After a couple of days of interest, these have just sat in their boxes. Such a disappointment.

*I did receive this toy free as a Buzz Agent but all opinions are my own.

As a big fan of transformers and construction toys (LEGO, Mega blocks, etc.), this is a great combination of both. I am very impressed with the engineering of this toy. All parts fit together well and the joints are nice and tight. Once you build the robot, you can transform it to vehicle mode without removing/adding any parts. It is a full functioning transformers toy! I am excited to pick-up other sets and start customizing these ‘bots. This is one of the larger sets and a great way to customize a transformer. I highly recommend you check-out this new line from Hasbro.

This bumblebee set allows you to transform between robot and vehicle (jet OR car). You must swap between the ‘car parts’ or the ‘jet parts’. Both vehicle modes will transform to a robot WITHOUT removing parts. You cannot transform from jet to car.

This set has a decent amount of parts that you can create your own version of the bumblebee transformer.

I’ve purchased the Starscream and Ironhide set as well. If you would like really customize your bot, it may behoove you to purchase one of the larger sets (like this one) with more pieces to customize. I’ve had some fun swapping parts around to make my custom transformer. Very cool.

Here is a link to a board that shows different combinations people have created thus far:
