I can’t say enough about this latest Voyager Optimus Prime. He’s complex yet easy and fun to transform. I haven’t had this much fun with a Transformer in a while. Super-poseable, sturdy, with a lot of great detail. His truck mode is a great homage to his 80s G1 counterpart and will delight even the most jaded Transformers collector.

My only gripe is his weapon. A poorly thought out design of its grip makes it look awkward in Prime’s hand. It makes me think this gun wasn’t actually made for this toy. But I have no idea if that’s the case. If you happen to have War For Cybertron Optimus Prime, his gun works very well with this toy.

    I highly recommend this guy.

I grew up with Transformers toys (but my older brother was privy to the main characters, like Optimus). This isn’t too easy too transform, and the instructions only show you how to change it from a truck into a robot, yet it comes in robot form so you have to figure out how to reverse it, but it’s a nice figure in both forms. it’s pretty expensive in the stores, so i don’t think it’s worth the list price, but Amazon’s sale price is worth it!

This optimus prime is actually very good mold, if youre looking for a solid movie version of optimus prime this figure is perfect. I bought this one rather than the takara one due to the pricing (takara is more than double the price!). I figured i could do the missing paint apps myself (they are minor but make a big impact).

At first look, it looks like the feet and hands are missing paint apps (gray instead of blue) but actually they are molded in gray plastic and hasbro felt the need to paint over them with blue. With a bit of work and paint stripping i was able to get this guy looking pretty close to the takara version (minus the flames on the shoulders and blue on the stomach, i dont mind red on the stomach).

In conclusion, as of now I feel that his figure and the grimlock figure are the better ones in the line. If you dont mind the odd paint app decision hasbro made or dont mind putting some work into it, then i recommend this figure. If you have the money and dont mind spending more, i would say go for the takara to save yourself time from customizing it. The robot mode is a nice solid figure and a good representation of his movie self and the truck mode is the classic G1 truck. As others have mentioned his shotgun can also be given to Dark of the moon voyager Megatron which makes this an added bonus.

P.S. if anyone is curious i stripped the blue paint off the hands and feet with 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol, soaking is the most effective way and then wipe or brush it off after, it will need to be soaked for a few hours to be the most effective. (paint apps that are wrong are: armor on the thighs, hands and feet, vents on the sides of his face, smoke stacks, biceps [upper arms], and the parts that stick up from his shoulders)
